The Sommer radar sensors of the RQ series continuously measure flow in open channels and rivers. The flow measurement is based on the combination of two measurement methods. The radar sensor continuously scans the surface speed of the water. The second sensor measures the current water level from which the exact flow rate is to be derived after entering the measurement turn.
Due to the non-contact method of measuring, the sensor cannot be contaminated by fouling or sediment. Additionally, floating waste cannot cause any damage. The result is a low-maintenance system with high reliability, even in flooding situations. The system can be installed quick and easy without any structural change to the measurement location.
If a level sensor is already present at a measurement location where flow is also to be measured, the RG-30 is a strong choice. The RG-30 only measures velocity by means of radar. The RG-30 uses the existing level sensor to calculate the flow.
The fully autonomous solution from Sommer is the all-in-one RQ-ADMS, which enables wireless data transmission and remote control.
