The RiverSurveyor is a small, portable and easy to use Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP). It measures both flow velocity and water depth (2D bathymetry) enabling current measurements in rivers, channels or other types of streams from 0.15 to 40 m deep.
The RiverSurveyor uses an intelligent algorithm that automatically adapts the acoustic measuring technique (pulse-coherent, broadband or incoherent techniques) on the fly based on water depth, flow velocity and turbulence. This innovative algorithm allows you to focus on the measurements itself instead of losing time with the instrument set-up.
There are two different types of RiverSurveyor available:
- The SonTek RiverSurveyor RS5 is a small, portable and easy to deploy instrument for determining the flow of small streams.
- For discharge measurements in deeper waterways, the slightly larger Riversurveyor M9 is the best option. The M9 can also be upgraded with the Hypack firmware for bathymetry applications.
- Multi-Band (Multiple acoustic frequencies): balances the highest resolution with the greatest range of depths.
- Vertical acoustic beam: superior channel definition, extends maximum discharge depth.
- All discharge computations are simultaneously done both within the S5 or M9, and on the host computer. No lost data if communications drop out.
- Standard 360º compass and two-axis tilt sensor.
- Bottom-tracking: very accurate tracking and depth measurement, even without GPS.
- RTK GPS (optional): Ultra precise positioning as an alternative to bottom tracking.
- Measurements possible in water as shallow as 10 cm.
- Very easy to carry in your backpack, without disassembly.
- Built-in high speed, low power consumption, battery and Bluetooth radio. No data loss with its 5 minute buffer and 100 meter range.
- SmartPulse: an intelligent algorithm utilizing Pulse-coherent and Broadband acoustic profiling that automatically adjusts based on conditions. Visualize velocity data like never before with cell sizes down to 2.5 cm.
