Testimonial: Extracting raw materials and optimising processes through inline measurement on wastewater
IMD – Driven by water
IMD specialises in measuring lost raw materials in wastewater. They determine when raw materials are being lost based on measurements so that processes can be optimised in a targeted fashion. They mitigate risks for their customers and ensure structural compliance with their permit requirements.
Customers are increasingly looking at making production processes more sustainable and efficient. By creating insight into the moments where raw material is lost, existing processes can run optimally and deviations can be detected earlier. This ensures optimum use of raw materials, energy and water, while reducing losses structurally.
Measurement concept
IMD has focused heavily on the inline measurement of specific raw materials in wastewater in recent years, to provide clear insight into the performance of production processes. They use UVVIS sensors for this purpose with calibration developed in-house to measure organic pollution in water, as well as the specific raw materials lost. This includes whole milk, skimmed milk, cream, whey and cheese plastic in the case of a cheese factory. By supplementing the UVVIS measurement with a Vaisala K-Patents refractometer, this concept can now also be applied in production processes where protein is extracted from whey, for example, and only lactose (sugar) may be present in the wastewater.
There are many producers in the food industry where proteins, fats and/or sugars are lost to wastewater. The above measurement concept minimises losses of raw materials and achieves more efficient operations in this sector. This demonstrably leads to a more efficient production process, lower losses of raw materials, cost reduction and a secured discharge situation. Is that not exactly what you want?
Collaboration with Elscolab is working well! They truly understand what their solutions can do and how make the best use of them. As a result of our collaboration, we have been able to reach new customers and offer insight and solutions that were out of our reach in the past.

Collaboration
IMD and Elscolab have been collaborating for several years already, with Elscolab as specialist representation of the measuring equipment, and IMD as specialist for application in the field. This collaboration enables us to know which measurement technique can be applied for our customers in which way, thereby providing the best insight, and thereby serving our customers in the best possible way.
