BioPharma - Formulation

Pharma - Formulation

In the formulation step of a biopharmaceutical production process, the active ingredients (API) are added and mixed with pure water and other substances. The dosing of the various products must be carried out extremely accurately and must therefore be carefully monitored.

Pharma - pH measurement

pH measurement

The pH-value of the product is highly important. This includes the safety of the product and its optimal functioning. The dosing until the desired pH is reached is often called titration. Here, the dosage is controlled with extreme precision on the basis of the pH measurement. The pH electrode must therefore be in good condition at all times. The only way of ensuring this is by using digital and intelligent electrodes. The status of the electrode is permanently monitored and calibration data can be sent from the electrode directly to the registration system digitally.

Conductivity measurement

A conductivity meter is used to determine the total amount of salts and minerals in the solution. Although the measurement technique is simple, measuring the resistance between two electrodes, it’s best to consider the choice of the right sensor and especially its installation. External influences are often the cause of measurement deviations.

Refractometry

We measure the refractive index of the medium using an inline refractometer. This gives the most accurate picture of all the substances dissolved in it, without the measurement being disturbed by colour, turbidity, particles, air bubbles, etc. With this technique, we check that the entire recipe is carried out correctly and that the final quality is achieved (Batch-to-Batch consistency).

Light absorption

By measuring how much light is absorbed of a certain wavelength, we can determine the colour or turbidity of the medium (wavelength-dependent). These visual parameters are important quality criteria for pharmaceutical products. Choose a suitable sensor with the appropriate optical path length and the possibility of periodic validation. This way you can be sure that the measurement is reliable every time.
