Thanks to the MOTUS wave sensor, wave properties can be mapped extremely accurately. The sensor measures wave movements via an accelerator.
This sensor can be used in both industrial and research applications. This sensor can be perfectly mounted in the MOTUS buoy, which integrated with (optional) flow sensors and water quality probes such as the EXO is the perfect measuring station for monitoring in both open sea and coastal waters. For data logging and real time data transfer, the sensor can be connected to the SmartGuard data logger.
Other buoys and loggers from external brands can also be used because:
- The sensor can correct the bias in measurements in case it cannot be placed in the centre of the buoy.
- An external compass can be used to prevent interference from the buoy’s metal components.
- The sensor can compensate for the damping effect that larger buoys have on shorter wavelengths.
Wave properties that can be measured include all kinds of height and periodicity parameters, direction, energy and Fourier coefficient spectra, etc. Furthermore, a distinction can be made between swell and wind generated waves.
