Lab Safety
Safety in the laboratory is of paramount importance. In the first place, of course, we are talking about the safety of users. But the safety of our working environment and of the product we work with is also of paramount importance to us. We prevent any kind of contamination by creating a clean room environment.
At Elscolab we’re there to support you in your application. Together, we look for the most suitable cabinet for the lab. The possibilities are briefly explained below.
Chemical safety cabinets
Do you work with chemical products that are potentially harmful to health, but is the air contamination of that product not the main factor? Then it’s best to use a chemical safety cabinet.
The most sustainable solutions are the safety cabinets that fully or partially circulate the air through a suitable absorption filter in the space, resulting in a huge HVAC cost reduction. However, "total exhaust" safety cabinets with their own or external extraction motor are also possible.
Microbiological safety cabinets
Depending on the application, you may want to work in a different kind of laminar flow cabinet. A characteristic of these cabinets is the use of one or more HEPA / ULPA filters. Activated carbon filters for procedures involving solvents are also an option that ensures a safe working environment.
Horizontal or vertical laminar flow cabinet
When the protection of the product has the highest priority, yet this product is harmless to humans, we like to refer to a horizontal or vertical laminar flow cabinet with positive pressure.
Class 2 biosafety cabinet
If the product treated is harmful to humans, we’re happy to provide a class 2 biosafety cabinet. This laminar flow cabinet provides negative pressure and internal recirculation using two HEPA filters, protecting both the user and the product.
Cytostatic safety cabinet
Finally, when working with cytostatic substances, one should work in a cytotoxic safety cabinet. The main feature of these cabinets is a third HEPA filter just below the work surface.
Isolators
If safety for people and products is to go that one step further, there are also the isolators. These glove boxes ensure complete separation between people and products and also offer the highest level of safety. Depending on the substance to be processed, a cabinet with internal positive or negative pressure can be chosen. If the substance has to be stored in an oxygen-deficient environment, an anaerobic safety cabinet can still be used.
Special cabinets
Sometimes ordinary safety cabinets just don't cut it for your unique project. At Elscolab we’re happy to help you with our custom-made safety cabinets!
