Obtaining information about snow from measurements is very complicated. The Sommer Snow Pack Analyzer (SPA-2) is a revolutionary innovation in snow measurement. It allows us to continuously and real time monitor all relevant parameters such as snow depth, snow density, snow water equivalent and the content of liquid water and ice. With this, the SPA-2 creates a unique insight into the composition and condition of the snow layer.
With the valuable information from the SPA-2 about snow density, liquid water content and snow water equivalent it is possible to recognize and analyse the snow melting processes at an early stage.
