The SonTek IQ series include a new generation of current meters specifically designed for discharge measurements in both man-made channels, culverts and pipes as natural watercourses.
The IQ instruments use 4 acoustic beams to measure flow along the vertical and horizontal axes of the stream for an optimal 3D representation. The acoustic beams are subdivided into individual cells for which the average flow is calculated. This method results in a much more accurate and representative profile compared to instruments which transmit a single cell acoustic beam.
The IQ uses SonTek's innovative SmartPulseHD algorithm that automatically adjusts the acoustic profiling technique, cell size and number of cells to flow conditions and water depth. The water level is determined via a built-in pressure sensor and an additional vertical acoustic signal beam that work in tandem. There is also an integrated sensor for temperature compensation.
The flow rate can be easily determined with the IQ by simply entering the geometry of the canal, stream or river via the user-friendly software. The IQ has a measuring range of 8 cm to 5 m and can measure up to 5 m/s. The IQ can be connected to numerous existing installations through RS-232, Modbus or SDI-12.
