BioPharma - Media Preparation
For cells or micro-organisms to produce the right product during fermentation, we need to give them the right nutrients. They are produced with the greatest care under the right conditions. Quality and purity are the main concerns. Correct calibration and validation is of utmost importance for the measurements that control it.
Refractometry
Buffer preparation can be monitored by measuring the refractive index. This is the very reason why the refractive index is a very important parameter on which you base the decision to release the buffer for further use. Mixing time can be significantly reduced by continuously monitoring the preparation. An inline refractometer is an indispensable PAT tool that quickly pays for itself.
Conductivity measurement
The food medium contains nutrients and minerals. These increase the conductivity of the medium. A good choice of conductivity sensor is important. It is best to choose a 4-electrode sensor here, or better still, an inductive conductivity sensor. Its calibration is fully in accordance with international standards and guidelines. The sensors are digital, which means that the registration of the calibration is ensured.
pH measurement
The acidity of the medium is one of the key criteria. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right electrode and to ensure that, for example, its calibration is digitally recorded. The quality of the sensor is monitored during measurement using digital or intelligent pH electrodes. You even get an indication of the life expectancy, so that you can be sure that the electrode will still give optimum results in the next batch.
