Transmitters or measuring converters convert the raw signal from the sensors into a usable measured value. This usually requires some kind of compensation (e.g. for temperature or pressure). The compensated measured value is transmitted digitally or via analogue signals to e.g. PLC, DCS, SCADA, or other process control systems. In most cases, the value is displayed on a screen.
Most measuring converters have firmware on board to calibrate the sensors and perform diagnostics to help you solve problems.
